Competition Rules Home
Judging.
1.
The
decision of the judge is final in all competitions.
2.
Entries
will not be awarded marks. But the judge will be asked to place the top six
entries in reverse order and may award any (highly commended) at his or her
discretion.
3.
When
a judge is asked to judge both slides and prints these will be treated as
separate competitions. Colour & monochrome prints will be
judge as a single competitions, with the top six being placed as above.
4.
Judges
are asked to accept all entries submitted are eligible for competitions.
Inter
club competitions.
1.
Unless
otherwise stated each member will be allowed to enter maximum of (three entries)
per competition.
2.
The
name of the member must not appear on the entry but when handing in entries to
the competition secretarys members ( must supply a list indicating.) Members
name / title / order of showing for set-of-three.
3.
Only
entries from paid up members will be accepted.
4.
Subject
to the exceptions listed below entries must be the unaided work of the
competitor.

Exceptions. Prints and slides may be trade processed
rule 9 in respect of certain monochrome and colour prints.
5.
Copies
of prints – paintings – artwork must be identified as such.
6.
Once
an entry has gained first place it cannot be re-used in a club competitions but
may be used in inter-club contests.
7.
All
slides must have been taken and prints printed within a period of three
yearsprior to the competition.
Set
of three competition: Entries of 3 different subjects.
Each
member is entitled to enter one of three slides / prints which shall consist of
three different subjects types (action landscape natural history). Each slide /
print must therefore be of a different type of subject. For example a bird could
not be used with another animal or a flower since both are natural history.
The judge
will be asked to consider the set as a whole. Taking into the account of the
variety of the set. Entries will be shown as a set

– subject competition.
No
definition will be advised other than the subject title. Members are left to
decide their own interpretation of the subject.
Nature
competition.
Entries may
include animals.plants.flowers.birds.insects.fish and such subjects as
meteorology. Geoicgy. And oaiaeontology.
However
domestic pets animals museum specimens, stuffed animals, flowers in arrangements
(e.g. Vases and parks) and cultivated plants and flowers are not acceptable.
It
is suggested that members give accurate rather than cute titles.
Portrait
competition.
Entries
may consist of photographs of one or more persons or animals.
Bob
clark
knockout
competition.
The
convention is that slides previously used in competitions will
not be entered.
Slides
used in round one may not be used in later rounds
Entrants
must bring sufficient slides for all rounds.
Top
six places in this competition do not carry points for the photographer of the
year.
Beginners
competitions.
A beginner
is anyone who has not gained first place in a competition in the appropriate
mode to the prior to the commencement of the season in which the competition is
scheduled. An advanced slide worker could therefore be a beginner in prints and
vise versa.
Anyone
joining the club who according to this formula was an advanced member of another
club automatically becomes an advanced member of the club. Anyone holding a
distinction of such RPS, PAGB, FIAP will not be a beginner in the mode in which
distinction was obtained.
Inter
club competitions.
These
shall consist of slides / prints. The number of entries per club

determined by mutual agreement between the clubs. It is a convention of these competitions
that the slide / print once entered against one club will not be re-used against
the same club.
The
normal requirement
glass mounted slides will not apply at the time of submitting slides for
selection but all slides eventually selected must comply with requirements and
be glass mounted before being handed over to the judge.
All
competitions.
Whilst every
effort will be made to ensure the safety of entries the club cannot accept any
responsibility for lose or damage whilst on route or in possession of a judge.
All
slides to be spotted with fresh un numbered spot in the bottom left hang corner
of the viewing side. Titled standard 2”x2”(5cmx5cm).
Masked
internaily where applicable.
All
prints to be mounted the mount not to exceed 20”x 16”(50.8cmx40.6cm)
Members names not to appear on any entry, subject to the exceptions listed
Jane
Grey Cup - or
advanced monochrome prints only.
Brian
Humble Cup - for
beginners prints only.
George
Thompson Tankard - for
colour prints home/trade processed only.
Subject
to the exception set out below where prints can be derived from slides. The
image can only be used in internal club competitions a maximum of three times in
all.wheather as a slide or print. The image cannot be re-entered in any internal
club competition after it has won in either format.
* Exception - Where the image has been manipulated to such an extent as to render it in effect an entirely different image. The opinion of the competition secretary is final in this regard.

Points
are the same whether monochrome/colour prints or slides or trade processed.
Definition
of a monochrome print.
This
is the current definition in use by FIAP for international exhibitions.
And
being used by the PAGB for national events in the UK and the NCPF.
A
black & white work going from very dark grey (black) to the very clear grey
(white) is a monochrome work with the various shades of grey.
A
black/white work toned entirely in a single colour will remain a monochrome work
able to stand in the black/white category (such a work can be reproduced in a
black/white catalogue under FIAP patronage ) on the other hand a black/white
print modified by partial
This
is being implemented by PAGB from 2004 competitions/exhibitions and by the NCPF
from 2004 competitions.
The
competition secretaries have the discretion to accept entries for competitions
after the closing date.
Such
entries will if accepted qualify for placings in the relevant competition but
such placings will not carry points in ascertaining the photographer of the
year.
All
trophies.
All trophies
shall be held nominally for one year and shall be cleaned and returned in time
for engraving before the
Presentation
evening. It shall be the responsibility of the member to keep the trophy in good
condition and to report to
the committee any damage incurred whilst in his or her possession.
Note
Entries for club competitions should be given to the Competition Secretary on or before the dates shown on the programme. Entries received after the dates shown may be accepted at the discretion of the Competition Secretary, but marks gained will not count towards the Photographer of Year competition.
