.......... in 1950 after those who had attended an evening class on photography decided to continue meeting on its conclusion and form a club. George Thompson was elected Secretary, a post he held for the first 25 years of the clubs existence; remarkably he is still in regular attendance.
In the late 1950's the club had as its Hon. President Sir Basil Simpson Bt OBE, a local industrialist. In those early years the club darkroom had to be booked in advance, such was the demand!
Social activity played an important part with coach outings being popular with the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales being regular venues; unfortunately these outings had to be discontinued in more recent times as interest fell.
In the 25th season the club had a visit from Richard Wilson with the Kodak Show and subsequently the club has hosted amongst others Pat Whitehouse with her 3D slides, Bob Moore and Roger Hance.
In the 1978/79 season the club was invited to take part in the PAGB Club Championship Leagues organised by the "Amateur Photographer" magazine. It did reasonably well pulling off victories against Sheffield PS and the eventual Northern Section winners Horsforth in what was their only league defeat.
The club has just celebrated its Golden Jubilee Season with a healthy membership of whom George Thompson, Trevor Walters and David Richardson have been awarded APAGB, and provide 2 judges and 3 lecturers to the NCPF lists.
